JOAQUIM MENDES – MANAGING DIRECTOR

Joaquim Mendes joined Mascot Steel in 2002 as the Head of Production.  He was appointed Managing Director of Mascot Steel in 2009.

Mr Mendes has a Diploma in Production Engineering and a Diploma in Electrical Engineering.  He also has a Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law & Practice from the Australian National University.  He has over 30 years experience working with steel in Australia, India, and the United Arab Emirates.

Mr Mendes is passionate about engineering and creating new products and services.  Since joining Mascot Steel in 2002 he has overseen the expansion of Mascot Steel’s fabrication services to include a wider range construction clients as well as entry into specialist services.  He is an expert in production strategy and new process development.

Mr Mendes is married with two children and is involved in local community activities and fundraising for a variety of causes.  He is a big sports fan, especially when it comes to soccer.

 

STEPHEN WRIGHT – FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Stephen Wright founded Mascot Steel in 1978.  He acquired a small steel processing firm called R.H. Engineering in 1977 which was located on Chalmers Street, Mascot.  In 1978 he moved the company to its current site at 261 Coward Street and renamed it Mascot Steel.

Mr Wright began his career in construction and manufacturing in the early 1970s. He has worked tirelessly over the decades with a range of clients from small builders on residential jobs to large corporation on important infrastructure projects.  There’s hardly a suburb in Sydney that doesn’t contain piece of Mascot Steel; from housing and commercial buildings, roads and train stations, restaurants and theatres, to high rise apartment blocks.

Mr Wright take pride in the diversity of projects delivered as well as the diversity of his team at Mascot Steel.  Mr Wright has a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion and family.

Despite the growth of the company over the past 40 years, Mr Wright has maintained a solid commitment to supporting the local community.  Through his leadership role at Mascot Steel, Mr Wright has supported local community groups, sports clubs, schools and local events in the South East Sydney area.  He is also an active volunteer with the Australian Living Kidney donor network after donating a kidney to his brother in 2009.

In 2012, Mr Wright moved into a Director role with a greater focus on business strategy whilst paving the way for Mr Joaquim Mendes to further diversify and grow the business as Managing Director.

Mr Wright is married with three children.  He is a massive fan of rugby, both union and NRL.  He is a stalwart supporter of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

MOHAMMAD SAMAD – GENERAL MANAGER

Mohammad Samad joined Mascot Steel in 2016 and has over 25 years experience working in construction and steel fabrication.

Mohammad is a Civil Engineer with an MBA specialising in Construction Project Management.  He has recently completed Diploma in Leadership and Management from Australian College of Commerce & Management.

Prior to joining Mascot Steel, Mohammad managed a variety construction projects ranging from small residential to high rise commercial buildings.  He is an experienced estimator with skills in drafting, fabrication, installation, programming and scheduling.

Mohammad’s extensive on-site experience means he has the direct knowledge and skills to help customers find innovative solutions.  At Mascot Steel, he enjoys collaborating with customers to reduce costs and increase project efficiency.

Mohammad is married with two children.  In his spare time he is a professional tennis coach and plays for fun when he can.

MARC AQUINO – PRODUCTION MANAGER (PENRITH)

Mr Marc Aquino joined Mascot Steel in 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and is a certified boilermaker.

Marc began his career almost 20 years ago in a small fabrication and machine factory.  Since then he has gained further expertise in structural and heavy metal fabrication.  He also has experience in manufacturing machine parts and coordinating complex fabrication projects.

Marc is highly adept at estimating, problem solving, process and production management.  At Mascot Steel, Marc has built strong relationships with both staff and customers.  He brings strong leadership skills to the role that helps ensure projects are completed to a high degree of quality and workmanship.

Outside of work Marc enjoys going to the beach with his family.  He is a mad sports fan and enjoys watching basketball.

DARRYL SEQUEIRA – SALES ASSISTANT

Mr Darryl Sequeira joined the sales team at Mascot Steel in April 2014. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and has over 20 years’ experience in construction, sales and hospitality industries.

Prior to joining Mascot Steel, Darryl held senior roles in industrial supply sales for the construction industry.  He has also worked in quality and risk assessment roles on large road infrastructure projects.  His on-site knowledge of infrastructure projects and quality control means he understands the pressures and concerns our customers face when ordering steel – whether you are a first time DIY customer or  seasoned infrastructure engineer.

At Mascot Steel, Darryl brings his expertise in commercial sales and quality assurance to deliver outstanding service and top-quality products for our customers. He is highly adept at building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, and ensuring customers get the right product, at the right time, for their jobs – big or small.

Darryl is married with one child.  In his spare time he plays soccer for the Eastern Creek Soccer Club.

JENNEFER BELONIO – MACHINE PROGRAMMER & OPERATOR

Mr Jennefer Belonio joined the production team at Mascot Steel in 2013.

Jen has a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and almost 20 years experience working with CNC machines across the globe.

Jen is skilled in 3D modelling and drafting, CNC machine programming, complex project drawings, and robotics.  He has worked with a variety of equipment including lathe, milling, laser, plasma, guillotine and press brake machines.  No matter what the scale – big or small – Mr Belonio has the experience to bring your drawings to life.

Outside of work, Jen is married and enjoys going out with friends.  He is an avid boxing and basketball fan.
